W Iain F Henderson MB ChB DRCOG DPD GP Principal, Kingsway Medical Court, Glasgow.
Iain Henderson graduated from Glasgow University in 1980 and entered General Practice in Glasgow in 1986. He obtained the Diploma in Practical Dermatology in 1997 from Cardiff and started a Hospital Practitioner session in Dermatology in 2001 at the Western Infirmary, Glasgow.
Since 1999 he has been GP organiser of the Western Infirmary Dermatology Club and is keen to raise the awareness, profile and membership of the PCDS in Scotland. To this effect he is one of the organisers of the Annual Scottish Meeting of the PCDS. He is the Primary Care Advisor for Skin Care Campaign Scotland and represents the PCDS on the Scottish Council for Dermatology.
Iain has recently retired from both general practice and his hospital practitioner post in dermatology. He still works as a GP appraiser and is involved in dermatology teaching.
He is a self-confessed sports nut whose main sporting interests are playing golf, badminton, skiing and rugby refereeing.
Irshad Zaki BMed Sci(Hons) BM BS MRCP Consultant Dermatologist, Solihull Hospital.
After qualifying from the University of Nottingham, Dr Zaki gained wide general medical experience before undertaking specialist training in dermatology.
His research interests as a trainee included immune-modulatory treatments for eczema and psoriasis. Throughout his career, Dr Zaki has taken a particular interest in dermatological and laser surgery.
He was appointed a consultant dermatologist with subspecialty expertise in skin cancer management in 1999. He has helped to establish a new department of dermatology, which is now the largest in the West Midlands. He was appointed Clinical Director for Dermatology in 2007 at the Heart of England Foundation Trust, which subsequently merged and is now University Hospitals Birmingham. The service provides a range of tertiary services from a state of the art dermatology facility. He established the regional frozen section Mohs’ micrographic surgery service, which attracts patients from a large catchment area.
He has been involved in several committees regarding clinical care, as well as cost effectiveness of treatment, and has also served on several national committees including the British Society for Dermatological Surgery, The Royal Society of Medicine, the Executive Committee of the British Association of Dermatologists and The Royal College of Physicians as the regional representative.
He plays an active role in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as specialist trainees. He is an invited faculty member at national and international meetings for skin cancer and skin surgery, including the British Society of Dermatological Surgery.
Most recently, He was proud to have received the ‘Building Healthier Lives’ clinical excellence award. This award is open to all 10,000 members of staff at the hospital and is nominated by both patients and staff. This is an acknowledgement of clinical care and contribution to the health service and Dr Zaki is the only dermatologist to have ever been awarded this.
Chris Bunker MD FRCP Consultant Dermatologist University College Hospital, London.
Chris Bunker is Consultant Dermatologist at University College and Chelsea & Westminster, Hospitals, London, UK. He has a personal Chair at Imperial College and University College, London, UK. He was educated at St Catharine's College, Cambridge, UK and Westminster Medical School, London, UK and trained in dermatology at The Middlesex and University College Hospitals, London, UK. He was awarded the Cambridge University Sir Walter Langdon-Brown prize for his MD thesis.
He is a Past-President of the British Association of Dermatologists, St John's Hospital Dermatological Society and the Dermatology Section of the Royal Society of Medicine. He is currently the elected UK Board Member of the European Academy of Dermatovenereology and the Secretary of the British Skin Foundation. He has delivered the Royal College of Physicians Ingram Lecture (twice), the Dowling Oration and the Neil Smith Lecture. Over 30 years he has given nearly 300 invited lectures.
His clinical and research interests have included TEN, melanoma, male genital dermatoses and HIV Dermatology. He has published nearly 350 papers, case reports, books and chapters, including on HIV and male genital dermatology in the textbooks Rook, McKee and Fitzpatrick.
Pauline J Buchanan RGN BSc(Hons) Community Dermatology Nurse Practitioner, NHS Fife Cardenden Medical Practice.
Polly is a Community Dermatology Nurse Practitioner and Independent Nurse Prescriber for NHS Fife. She holds the QNIS Queen's Nurse title and is currently Chair of the Scottish Dermatological Nursing Society.
Polly has many years’ experience in primary and secondary care dermatology nursing and is an accomplished author with many published papers in peer reviewed journals. Polly's special areas of interest include professional development, bio-psychosocial approaches to care, health literacy, dermatology and chronic disease management.
Richard Jerrom MRCP BMBS BMedSci(Hons) ST6 Dermatology Registrar, West Midlands.
Richard Jerrom is currently a dermatology trainee in the West Midlands. Having trained at Nottingham University, he completed foundation training in Nottingham and Lincoln. He moved to the West Midlands in 2014 for core medical training and subsequently secured a training number in the same deanery. He has worked in dermatology departments in Sydney, Australia and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia during his early training.
He has developed a keen interest in the fields of dermatological surgery, psychodermatology and is hoping to develop his experience of treating nail pathology. He is currently the trainee representative for Psychodermatology UK and is involved in the BAD guideline committee for delusional infestation. He is also one of two trainee representatives for the West Midlands deanery.
Having previously held the position of deputy chairman of the Trent Regional Junior Doctors committee for the BMA he has developed a good understanding of the political pressures on the NHS. He has presented material at both national and international conferences and has publications in peer-reviewed journals. He has won a national presentation prize in psychodermatology.
Outside from work he enjoys DIY projects and keeping fit through swimming, playing golf and tennis. He obtained his private pilots licence in 2007 and completed the theory for RYA Yachtmaster in 2013. He is also a keen scuba diver and skier.
Arlene McGuire Mpharm PGDip CPP Independent Prescriber Specialist Clinical Pharmacist – Dermatology & Allergy, Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust
Arlene has been practicing as a hospital pharmacist for 11 years; after qualifying she went on to complete a postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy practice and became the lead pharmacist for dermatology and allergy services at Guys and St Thomas’ Foundation Trust in 2013. St John's Institute of Dermatology opened in 1863, and is now one of the world's leading centers for patients with skin disease. As a tertiary centre they treat a wide range of skin diseases from the most common to very rare, and offer highly specialised treatments for inpatients and outpatients which are not available elsewhere in the UK.
Arlene has a special interest in psoriasis and immunotherapy, and has developed the role of the clinical pharmacist in the severe psoriasis biologics clinic, qualifying as an Independent Prescriber in this field in 2015.
Arlene has taught on the King’s College undergraduate pharmacy programme, Dermatology Nursing programme and Clinical Dermatology MSc course in collaboration with St John’s. She has presented previously at the National Association of Specialist Phototherapy Nurses’ Conference and the British Association of Dermatology Nurses Biologics Network. Arlene has been involved in the current update of the ‘British Association of Dermatologists Guidelines for Biologic Therapy in Psoriasis’.
Arlene recently started a national network for pharmacists specialising in the field of dermatology across the UK, in the hope that this can be a platform to share best practice and expertise.
