BSF-funded research leads to breakthrough: oral contraceptive use linked to hair loss

Dr Christos Tziotzios, a Consultant Dermatologist and Senior Lecturer at St John’s Institute of Dermatology, King’s College London, specialises in Hair Disorders. 

He led a groundbreaking study titled ‘Gene-Environment Interaction Between CYP1B1 and Oral Contraception on Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia’, recently published in JAMA Dermatology. This research was a collaborative effort with Prof Michael Simpson from the Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics and Prof John McGrath from St John’s Institute of Dermatology, and was carried out by Dr Tuntas Rayinda, a recent PhD graduate. The study was funded by the British Skin Foundation via the Young Investigator Award to Dr Tziotzios, who is currently supported by the Medical Research Council (MRC).
