Artificial intelligence in dermatology: watch this space

 

Artificial intelligence (AI) is the development of computer systems that can imitate human cognitive function and make independent decisions. In dermatology, AI focuses on resembling visual perception to reach a diagnosis. Understanding and embracing the potential for the integration of AI in healthcare is central to its success in aiding doctors in their clinical duties and propelling diagnostic medicine forwards. Alongside the use of integrative AI decision support systems, essential human skills, including compassion and empathy, collaboration, reflection and leadership, must continue to be nurtured within the field of dermatology.
