Atopic eczema (AE) is a chronic and relapsing inflammatory skin disorder characterised by dry skin and pruritus. It is common in childhood; in the UK, an estimated 20% of children are affected by AE at some stage. AE can have a significant detrimental impact on the quality of life (QoL) of affected children and their families.
